New social network Chime.in seems to take from the best of both (or three!) worlds – combining the sharing capabilities of Twitter, with the flexibility of blogging, and the social voting capabilities of Reddit. Ubermedia CEO Bill Gross describes Chime.in as an “interest network”, approaching content matter completely different than Facebook or Twitter.
Chime.in allows its users to share content with others, featuring a newsfeed, profile pages, following system and status updates, or “chimes”. Users are also allowed to write short articles, add multimedia, tags and choose sharing options. Other users are then able to vote a Chime up or down in the “chime-line”.
This is interesting since it give users a direct, hands on approach to determining the relevance of users’ posts, as opposed to Facebook’s News Feed which works on an internal ranking system based on the overall interaction associated with a user’s shared content. How will this benefit the online marketer? Stay tuned…
